Athletes of the Month: May

Every month the athletic department will recognize 1 boy and 1 girl from both the High School and 1 Athlete per sport, per month at the Middle School campus for outstanding athletic achievement and character qualities. These candidates are nominated by their coaches.

HIGH SCHOOL

Kaelyn McCann

Kaelyn McCann is the CIF-SS Division 4 Pole Vault Champion for the 2nd year in a row.  She defended her title with a jump of 11’ 6” and hopes to continue her season by qualifying for the state meet.  Linfield does not have the facility and equipment for Kaelyn to jump on campus, so she travels to practice with her coach 4-5 days a week.  This season she competed in many of the top meets in SoCal with top 5 finishes at Nike Redondo Invite, Asics Laguna Beach Invite, Inland Empire, and Mt SAC Relays.  She also qualified for and competed at the Arcadia Invite for the 2nd year in a row.  Kaelyn is an intensely focused, dedicated athlete who fiercely competes in each meet with amazing grace and kindness.  Her enthusiasm, encouragement, and energy is contagious to those around her.  Kaelyn – congrats on another outstanding track season!

Tom Graham

Tom Graham led the varsity boys team with an 83.3 stroke average for the season and his leadership was key to the Lions’ success as they finished second in the Ambassador League. Tom was the top Linfield player at League Finals finishing in third place, shooting 77-77 for 154 total and was one of two Lion golfers to qualify for CIF-SS Individual competition.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

Brooklyn Simon

Brooklyn is an amazing player and great leader on the girls JV soccer team this season. She stepped into any position as needed, whether it be goalie or forward and she was ready to go. Brooklyn had a great attitude on and off the field and was a great example to her teammates.

Maddy Anderson

Maddy was a key player to the girls varsity soccer team both on the field and as a teammate off the field. She tallied 7 of the Lions’ 13 goals, but more than that, she came everyday with her best. Maddy has a contagious positive attitude and work ethic and was a spark whenever she stepped on the field. Coach Angela says it has been a joy to coach her for the past few years and she can’t wait to see where the Lord leads Maddy.

Greg Toth

Greg stepped up all season long to become a focused and driven leader. He lead by example and always gave his team 100% effort. Even when games seemed out of reach, Greg was able to regroup this squad and persevere to victory. He is a natural leader who impacts all of those around him with motivation, knowledge, and love of Christ. He was an honor to coach this year.

Jaxon Nash

Jaxon was a true leader and positive influence for his teammates on the boys varsity soccer team to follow. He consistently performed at a high level and always wanted to know more about what he can do to help the team. Jaxon is one of the main reasons the varsity squad had as much success as they had this season. He was fun to watch and an honor to coach!

Daisy Gale

Daisy is a natural leader and a respectful athlete. She attends each practice ready to work hard. She is disciplined in learning how to improve her skills. Daisy swept her events with three medals! She was medaled in the 100, 200 and 400! Her 100 times are mid 13’s and only getting faster with each meet! She has a true gift and a humble heart to steward it with!

Daniel Guerra

Coach Russell had this to say about Daniel, “Never before have I seen such dedication to a sport that this young man exhibits. Despite his incredible performances on the golf course and his ability to lead his team through example, Daniel continues to strive to perfect his craft and become an even better golfer. I have no doubt that one day we will watch Daniel play golf alongside other masters on the PGA tour.”

Arthur Gorian

Arthur was the boys track & field All-Purpose athlete. He may be small in stature now, but he runs really fast and jumps really high! And he does it all with a smile on his face, which is why he has been selected as the Boys Track & Field Athlete of the Month. His attitude during practice has been a blessing to his coaches and his teammates. Arthur competed in a variety of events (100, 400, 300 hurdles and jumps) and is open to discovering his unique gifts and talents! His times are great in most everything he tries and with dedication he will be one to watch!
