Athletes of the Month: February

Every month the athletic department will recognize 1 boy and 1 girl from both the High School and 1 Athlete per sport, per month at the Middle School campus for outstanding athletic achievement and character qualities. These candidates are nominated by their coaches.

HIGH SCHOOL

Devyn Cope

Devyn is a 4-year varsity player. She has been instrumental in winning the first girls basketball league championship in 9 seasons. She is an exemplary student who works hard and received a 4.1 GPA for her first semester. Devyn is a 3-time captain, an amazing leader who leads by example with her strong work ethic and positive attitude. She will be missed next year as a Lion, but her future is bright in the sport of basketball!

Tony Santoro

Tony stepped up and showed himself as a leader in January with 7 goals and 2 assists in games that were very important for accomplishing the team’s goal of making playoffs. Tony is a young man of character, always working hard for those around him. He plays for the glory of God, not his own glory, and he has earned the respect of his coaches and teammates alike.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

Kambria Reed

This is Kambria’s second season playing basketball. What a huge improvement one year can make! She has turned into a defensive stopper and a great rebounder. She will be a great asset for the high school team next year.

Alyssa Lopez

Can you say, “No Fear”? Alyssa is not afraid of anything on the basketball court. She is constantly stealing the ball and scoring baskets. Alyssa is on both JV and Varsity and when she is on JV, she is definitely the team leader and captain.

Jacob Washburn

Jacob is always one of the first athletes to get to practice each day. He works hard at practice and contributes on the court as a starter on the team. Most importantly, he was recently voted by his teammates as “most likely to be the leader if they were stranded on a deserted island.”

Luke Bohmer

Like is the leader and point guard of the JV basketball team. Luke also excels in the classroom with a 4.0 GPA. He leads by example on and off the court. In the game against cross-town rival Rancho Christian, Luke scored 30 of the teams 46 points which included 6 three-pointers, leading the team to a 46-41 victory.

Ava Arevalo

Ave is a super talented young athlete and works very hard. She shows up every day prepared for a great day of practice or matches and is very receptive to coaching advice. She takes on the challenge of playing the best players and was very successful.
