Kyle Owsley To Head Lions Baseball Program

Linfield Christian Athletics names Kyle Owsley as their new Head Varsity Baseball Coach. Owsley comes from Scripps Ranch High School in San Diego where he served as the Varsity Assistant Coach and Program Pitching Director for the past two years. During this time, he introduced a throwing program that reduced the team ERA from 3.08 in 2016 to 2.63 in 2017, developed outfield gameplay resulting in a .982 fielding percentage, and improved the run game from stealing 95 bases in three seasons to 161 in two seasons. Prior to coaching at Scripps, Owsley was the Varsity Pitching Coach and Program Pitching Director at Mount Carmel High School from 2012-2016. In his first season at Mount Carmel, Owsley instilled character, insight, and work ethic helping produce 13 wins and a CIFSDS – Division IV Championship to a program that had 13 total wins from 2010-2012. In addition to coaching high school baseball, Owsley serves as a managing partner for San Diego Deacons Baseball Club.

As a player, Owsley attended Mount Carmel High School and then went on to play baseball at San Diego Mesa College. In his two years at San Diego Mesa, Owsley earned Pacific Coast Conference Honorable Mention and First Team honors as a freshman and sophomore, respectively. He was ranked first in the Pacific Coast Conference with 84.2 innings pitched and 74 strikeouts in 2005. Owsley continued his playing career at Cal State University, Los Angeles where earned CCAA All-Conference Second Team honors as a junior and CCAA All-Conference Honorable Mention as a senior. A senior season highlight included pitching and earning a win against #1 Nationally Ranked Sonoma State in the NCAA-Division II West Regional.

“I’m beyond excited to join the Linfield family,” says Owsley. “I’m aware Linfield has a tradition of winning and I intend to carry on that tradition and grow it to new heights as well as helping our athletes grow as young men. Our baseball program will be focused on building leaders in the classroom, on campus, in the community, and on the field. Everything we do, we will do with class.”

“I am excited to welcome Kyle Owsley as our new head baseball coach,” adds Linfield AD Anthony Harris. “Kyle is a man of faith that brings a wealth of baseball knowledge, passion for the game and a vision that will bring stability and continued growth to the baseball program.”

Owsley currently works for Ashford University in Registrar Quality Assurance. He is married to his wife Morgan of two years and together they have a seven-month old daughter named Caroline.
